Surgical fluid suction is vital to maintain cleanliness and reduce contamination during procedures. Effective fluid disposal equipment is required to manage hazardous fluids, to eliminate contact, and to protect healthcare professionals from unwanted exposure and spillages.

Design
Our Serres Nemo system provides safe and easy disposal of fluid medical waste. The innovative design promotes workplace safety, virtually eliminating the risk of human error, and speeding up the waste disposal process for a smoother workflow.
Serres Nemo is exclusively compatible with Serres suction bags. The device can be installed beside sinks or macerators, utilising current cold water and waste pipes. The system does not require its own independent facility installation since it piggybacks off existing set-ups.
The Nemo does not involve chemicals for neutralising fluids. Instead, it uses water to dilute the waste. Operation is simple: Serres Nemo dilutes and empties the contents of the suction bag into the waste system and rinses the suction bag with water. The wash cycle takes 15 seconds, regardless of liner capacity. The clean suction bags can then be removed and disposed of as per waste disposal guidelines. Its high quality waste bags reduce contamination risk, with sustainability remaining front of mind.

Case Study: Heatherwood Hospital – Endoscopy Unit
Heatherwood Hospital – Endoscopy Unit (Frimley Park Foundation NHS Trust) trialled Serres Nemo and found significant improvements across a number of areas.
Background
Heatherwood’s Endoscopy Unit was disposing of 16.25 kilograms of fluid each day, totalling over 5.5 tons per year. A three day trial of Serress Nemo highlighted its significant time and cost savings, along with reduction in carbon footprint.
Results
Utilising Serres Nemo in fluid waste disposal resulted in an estimated £100k annual savings in incineration costs, down from £255k to £153k. There was also an estimated £1,745 per annum saving in liner costs, owed to the switch from pre-gelled to standard liners.
There was a significant reduction in the Endoscopy Unit’s carbon footprint, anticipating a 64% improvement by saving 2.24 tons of CO2 emissions (CO₂e) per year.
Serres Nemo received 100% positive feedback from staff members, who commented on its ease of use, time efficiency, cleanliness and infection control. Furthermore, the trial found a significant reduction in manual handling time and waste moving through hospital.
